Brian Hatton
Philanthropy Advisor
With nearly 50 years in the finance sector as a trust officer, Brian has gained significant expertise in the charity and philanthropic space. From 2015 to 2022, Brian worked with a very large and successful charitable grant-making trust, donating to Irish charities, designing and executing a grant-giving programme from scratch and managing the grant-making and monitoring processes.
Just three of Brian’s notable successes include his involvement and creation, motivation and rollout of:
George Moore Scholars, an all-Ireland scholarship programme supporting academically talented students undertaking a Master’s degree outside the island of Ireland and managed under the auspices of The Ireland Funds
An access programme specifically for mature female disadvantaged students at a leading Dublin university
A Chair in data analytics at Ulster University Magee campus.
Aware that donating money responsibly requires careful thought and planning to support benefactors’ missions effectively, Brian can assist with developing and implementing plans that consider various factors, including:
Strategy and optimal outcomes: Identifying areas of interest, suitable organisations or projects and attitude to risk.
Programme duration: Will it be perpetual, spend-down, or a hybrid.
Legal structure: Choosing the appropriate structure for continuity and determining third-party involvement.
Non-financial resources: Identifying, sourcing, and costing needed resources.
Investment management: Organising professional management for programme funds.
